1. HOW TO APPLY AT MNSU FOR ONLINE LEARNING

You’ve decided on Minnesota State University, Mankato. Good choice! Now how do you apply?

Go to the MNSU Webpage at http://www.mnsu.edu/

1. From here click “Prospective Students” on the sidebar or “Admission” at the top

From the prospective student page you can explore the different programs offered, costs, housing, and more.

2. Once you’re ready to apply click “Ready to Apply?”

This takes you to a page that offers choices for undergraduate studies or graduate studies.

Make your choice and click to the next step that offers all the details you need.

3. When you’re ready, click “Online Application”

This will take you from page to page filling out the online application form to submit for approval. Take your time to answer all of the questions and provide all of the required materials.

4. Some items you’ll need to provide

  • Transcripts: from your high school or any other colleges you’ve attended.
  • Letter of Application: tell MNSU why you want to attend the program you’ve chosen.
  • Payment plan: will you pay for classes yourself, or do you have a scholarship or some other form of tuition assistance?

5. Now sit back and wait for the school to contact you

Once you’ve registered, MNSU will contact you letting you know its decision.

1. Keep important dates written down

  • Class registration start dates.
  • Drop/add dates.

2. Consult with your adviser about what classes you should take for the degree program you’ve chosen

Not talking to your adviser could result in your taking unnecessary classes that don’t apply toward your major.

3. If you have some form of tuition assistance, send the information with each new semester

You will want to send any information to your registrar office each semester for your continued tuition assistance. This requires a hard copy letter that someone from the office will send to you through MavMail. You can fax it or mail it through the postal service to the address provided.

When taking more than one class at a time, consider the material and your personal schedule. You want to do well and learn all that you can. Make sure  your schedule will allow you to do well and not feel too overwhelmed.

5. Start thinking about where you will do your internship as part of your degree program

If you’ve already worked as a technical writer, you may have the opportunity to use your experience as your internship. Work closely with your adviser to find out if you can substitute your work experience for the internship requirement.

6. Counsel with an adviser extensively when choosing the right final project for your degree

You have three choices for your final project: (1) a thesis, (2) an alternative plan paper, and (3) a capstone project. Each one has a different scope and purpose. Make a wise decision which one you choose. Your adviser will help you decide depending on what you want for your future.
