When taking classes online, some you attend live, others you don’t
You have two options for online classes:
1. Asynchronous
These classes don’t meet live. You must have extreme discipline to attend an asynchronous class because you’re on your own. The teacher will provide you with a syllabus and assignments that have due dates, but you manage your own time and schedule.
Tips for asynchronous classes:
- Keep a well-managed calendar.
- Do homework assignments weekly to prevent falling behind.
- Read MavMail and D2L daily to ensure you don’t miss anything.
- Attend all meetings that the teacher may offer.
- Take advantage of the teacher’s available meeting dates to ask questions.
2. Synchronous
In a synchronous class you will attend a live class on Adobe Connect, usually weekly. You will automatically connect to Adobe Connect when you click into class.
- Log onto D2L.
- Click on the link your teacher has provided. You won’t need to purchase any hardware or download any programs.
- After clicking the link, enter your first and last name and click “visitor” to go in.
- Once in, you will see other students who have logged in.
- Type your messages in the bottom box to converse with other students and the teacher.
What you will need for a synchronous class:
- Computer with a camera built in or added attachment.
- A headset or ear buds to listen and talk.
